CGL is an \u00a0rare disease, with an estimated worldwide prevalence is \u00a0of about \u00a0one in 10 million. The most characteristic clinical feature is near total lack of body fat and extreme muscularity present at birth. These patients develop extremely high levels of triglycerides, insulin resistance and associated complications, such as diabetes mellitus, fatty liver, polycystic ovary syndrome, and hypertension.\u00a0 The genes involved in CGL have a role in differentiation and function of fat cells, and the processing of fat in other tissues. Our patient had a total cholesterol of 1314, triglycerides of over 8000, and LDL of 1260!<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">a<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lev-isha.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/figure-lipodystrophy.png\" class=\"hoverBorder alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-19836 size-medium \" src=\"https:\/\/www.lev-isha.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/figure-lipodystrophy-300x141.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"141\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lev-isha.eoidev8.co.il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/figure-lipodystrophy-300x141.png 300w, https:\/\/lev-isha.eoidev8.co.il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/figure-lipodystrophy-768x362.png 768w, https:\/\/lev-isha.eoidev8.co.il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/figure-lipodystrophy-280x132.png 280w, https:\/\/lev-isha.eoidev8.co.il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/figure-lipodystrophy.png 855w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Once Hadassah cardiologist Dr. Ronen Durst with medical\u00a0 student \u2013 Koby Gorin, made the diagnosis in HA, they evaluated her family with the aim of determining the specific mutation.<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">a<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">They found 6 affected family members, and were able to identify a novel frameshift mutation in the AGPAT2 gene.<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">a<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0AGPAT2 is on chromosome 9, encoding an enzyme which is a key intermediate in the biosynthesis of fats in the body.
